This being Lyric’s first Christmas is a huge deal! I mean, what ‘baby’s first’ anything doesn’t make celebrating so much more special?! When I was a kid my mom made Christmas full of traditions and it was a time we looked forward to all year ’round. Now I can’t wait to spend all of our Christmases with Lyric. I’m looking forward to carrying on some of those traditions with my little family and making some new ones of our own.
Since our real tree is up (tradition #1!) and decorated, I’m starting with making Lyric’s first Christmas tree ornament. Granted, I didn’t actually make it, but I took an ornament and added her name and the year to it. Simple, but perfect.
I picked out a white glass bulb ornament (with thick glass, not those super thin, fragile ones) and used some gold acrylic paint that I had on hand. Using a cup, I sat the ornament in it so it would stay still while I used a pencil to sketch her name out. Then I used the tiniest, thinnest paint brush I had and gently started painting each letter. The trick is to go slow and dab the paint on rather than brush it on. The paint will adhere better and the color will pop much more without having to apply many coats. Two should be enough.
I’m no calligraphy artist so I always refer to the fonts I have on my MacBook. I have a ton of downloaded fonts that I love so I type out what I want to hand write and sort through until I like how it looks in a particular font, and use that as a guideline.
Here’s how her ornament turned out. I love seeing her name dangle from our Christmas tree and can’t wait for the end of the month! I have a feeling Santa is going to be really good to her!
Here’s what else is decorating our tree this year!
